This page gives an example of how Purchasing responsibilities can be divided.

Your vessel may use different role names.

Crew

Crew usually creates purchase requests.

Crew can add items, explain why they are needed and submit the request for approval.

Ship manager

The ship manager usually reviews requests.

The ship manager can approve, reject, request quotations and convert approved requests into purchase orders.

Office or administration

Office users may manage suppliers, invoices and budgets.

They can also follow purchasing history and support the vessel when orders need extra handling.

Permissions

Roles only describe the work.

Permissions decide what a user can actually see or change in Marlinspike.
